生于江苏省海门县三星镇。
1910年 庚戌 14岁 就读海门高等小学，始习
画竹。
1918年 戊午 22岁 南通省立第七中学毕业。
后执教于城北小学（现实
验小学）任教。
1919年 己未 23岁 执教南通中学，从李苦李
学艺。
1920年 庚申 24岁 《个簃印指》刊行。
1923年 癸亥 27岁 诗稿呈吴昌硕老人批阅。
识刘海粟及同门赵子云、
刘玉庵、潘天寿、沙孟海、
诸闻韵、诸乐三，相交甚
笃。从曹拙巢、杨沧白学
诗；从诸宗元、冯君木习
词章。
1925年 乙丑 29岁 为吴东迈独子吴志源（长
邺）课读，迁居吴寓。得
与吴昌硕朝夕相处面聆教
诲。
1927年 丁卯 31岁 任新华艺大、中华艺大教
授。
1928年 戊辰 32岁 任昌明艺术专科学校国画
系主任。
1932年 壬申 36岁 刘海粟携中国现代名家作
品赴欧参加“中国绘画展”。
以《刀鱼图》、《瓜菱清
暑图》参展，《刀鱼图》
获奖，《瓜菱清暑图》被
德国东方博物馆收藏。任
上海美专教授兼国画系主
任。王一亭率张大千、王
个簃、钱瘦铁等作为中国
书画家代表团访问日本。
1937年 丁丑 41岁 任东吴大学教授。
1946年 丙戌 50岁 在宁波同乡会举办首次个
人画展。
1947年 丁亥 51岁 在沧州举办第二次个人画
展。
1948年 戊子 52岁 在上海举办第三次个人画
展，《个簃画集》（上、
下集）印行。
1950年 庚寅 54岁 得缶翁所刻巨印《还砚堂》，
即以作斋名，寄托对昌硕
先生的永久怀念。
1953年 癸已 57岁 作寻丈巨幅《五色牡丹图》
参加建国后上海举办的第
一次大型画展。
1957年 丁酉 61岁 在上海举办解放后第一次
个展。
1958年 戊戌 62岁 国画《勤俭治家》入选
“第一届社会主义国家造
型艺术展览”。
1959年 己亥 63岁 当选为上海先进工作者，
全国政协委员，赴京出席
群英会，参加中国文艺工
作者代表大会，出席全国
政协会议，受到毛主席、
刘少奇主席等中央领导接
见并合影留念。
1960年 庚子 64岁 任上海中国画院副院长。
方增先跟从学艺。
1963年 癸卯 67岁 参加书法代表团访日。被
选为西泠印社副社长。
1964年 戊午 68岁 2 月，赴京出席第五届全
国政协会议。
1979年 己未 83岁 在新加坡举办《吴昌硕王
个簃》画展，选辑《吴昌
硕王个簃画集》印行。在
杭州受到李先念主席接见。
1980年 庚申 84岁 被选为美协上海分会副主
席兼常务理事。
1981年 辛酉 85岁 《王个簃画集》刊行。任
中国书法家协会上海分会
副主席。在上海举办“诗、
书、画、篆刻展览”。
1982年 壬戌 86岁 《个簃印存》印行。《王
个簃随想录》印行。
1983年 癸亥 87岁 农历9 月24日，批准参加
中国***。重临石鼓文
八鼓并作“篆书口诀长歌”，
总结六十年作篆心得。
1984年 甲子 88岁 被选为上海市文学艺术界
联合会第三届委员会委员。
1985年 乙丑 89岁 赴大阪展画、讲学，大阪
市长授予金钥匙一把。参
加六届全国美展，作品
《水仙》获优秀奖。赴新
加坡举办画展并讲学。
1986年 丙寅 90岁 在上海美术馆举办九十寿
书画展览。
1987年 丁卯 91岁 九十寿画展在杭州、北京
举行。
1988年 戊辰 92岁 12月18日逝世。
1897 1 years old; born in the Shanxing
County of Haimen, Jiangshu Province
on October 20.
1910 14 years old; started school at
Haimen Primary School ; began to
paint bamboo.
1918 22 years old; graduated from No.7
Provincial Middle School in Nantong,
and became a teacher at Chengbei
Primary School.
1919 23 years old; taught in Nantong
Middle School and took Li Kuchan as
his master of arts.
1920 24 years old; " Ge Yi Sealcutting
Works" was published.
1923 27 years old;sent his poetic scripts
to Wu Changshuo for advice; took Wu
Cangshuo as his master;got acquainted
with Liu Haishu and his fellow
apprentice Zhao Ziyun, Liu Yu'an, Pan
Tianshou, Sha Menghai, Zhu Wenyun,and
Zhu Lezhi;they were in devoted friend-
ship ; took Cao Zhuocao and Yang
Changbai as his masters of poems,and
Zhu zongyuan and Feng Junmu as his
masters of poetic verses.
1925 29 years old; taught Wu Zhiyuan, the
only son of Wu Dongmai; moved to Wu
Changshuo's house, thus he could be
together with his master and study
from him from morning to night.
1927 31 years old; was employed as a
professor of Xinhua University of
Arts and Zhonghua University of Arts.
1928 32 years old; acted as the dean of
the traditional Chinese paintings of
Cangming Art College.
1932 36 years old;his paintings of "Fish"
and "Summer" was sent to London and
Berlin by Liu Haishu who carried the
works of modern celebrated Chinese
painters to attend the Exhibition of
Chinese paintings; his "Fish" won a
prize and his "Summer" was stored up
at the showroom of Chinese paintings
in the German East Museum ; was
employed as professor and dean of
the department of traditional Chinese
paintings at Shanghai Arts College;
asked Cao Zhuocao and Yang Lunbai to
appraise and comment on his 10
volumes of poetic scripts.
1937 41 years old; was employed as
professor of Dongwu University.
1946 50 years old; held the individual
arts exhibition at the fellow
countryman get-togather for the
first time.
1948 52 years old; the " Collection of
Geyi's Paintings " (Two parts) was
published.
1950 54 years old; got a large seal of
" the Hall of Returning the Inkstone"
inscribed by Wu Cangshuo; named his
study after the inkstone to show his
eternal memory of Wu Cangshuo, his
respectful teacher.
1953 57 years old;drew large-sized "Peony
Picture in Five Colors" and attended
the first exhibition of paintings
held in Shanghai since the founding
of China.
1957 61 years old; held an individual
exhibition of paintings for the first
time after liberation.
1958 62 years old; his traditional
Chinese painting " Managing the
Household through Thrifty and
Hardwork" was selected to attend the
"First Exhibition of Plastic Arts of
the Socialist Countries"held in Mosco,
the Soviet Union.
1959 63 years old; was selected " the
Advanced Worker of Shanghai " and a
member of All-China Political
Consultative Committee; went to
Beijing to attend the meeting of
outstanding workers; took part in
the Congress of China's Literary
workers. He attended the All-China
Political Consultative Conference,
and was interviewed by the leaders
of the central government such as
Chairman Mao and Chairman Liu
Shaoqi and they had a group photo
taken for the occasion.
1960 64 years old; served as vice-
president of Shanghai Academy of
Traditional Chinese paintings.
1963 67 years old; took part in the
Calligraphy Delegation to Japan; was
selected vice-director of Xiling
Engravers' Society.
1979 83 years old; A Painting Exhibition
of Wu Changshuo and Wang Geyi was
held in Singapore; the " Painting
Collection of Wu Changshuo and Wang
Geyi " was published; he was
interviewed by Chairman Li Xiannian
in Hangzhou.
1980 84 years old; was selected vice-
chairman and standing secretary of
Shanghai branch of the Artists
Association in the third membership
conference of the Shanghai branch.
1981 85 years old;the "Collection of Wang
Geyi's Paintings"was published;acted
as the vice-chairman of Shanghai
branch of China's Calligraphers
Association; held the exhibition of
poems, calligraphy, paintings, and
sealcutting.
1982 86 years old; his works " Geyi's
Preserved Seals" and " Wang Geyi's
Jottings" were published.
1983 87 years old; joined the Communist
Party On September 24 (lunar
calendar); copied again inscriptions
on Bronze Objects and wrote a "Pithy
Formula of Seal Character ", which
summarized what he had learned during
his 60 years' sealcutting life.
1984 88 years old; was selected a member
of the 3rd conference of the Shanghai
Federation of the Literary and Art
Circles.
1985 89 years old; was invited to Osaka
to hold exhibitions and made
lectures,where he was awarded a gold
key; participated in the all-China
exhibition of arts, and his
"Narcissous" was awarded as a works
of excellence. In August, he held
the exhibition of paintings and made
lectures in Singapore.
1986 90 years old; held the exhibition of
calligraphy and paintings for his
90th birthday.
1987 91 years old; his exhibition of
paintings for his 90th birthday was
held in Hangzhou and Beijing;Nantong
municipal Party committee and
municipal government decided to
build Geyi Art Gallery.
1988 92 years old; died on December 18.
