出生于浙江省鄞县沙村。
名文若，字孟海，中年后
以字行。号石荒、兰沙、
決明、沙邨。
1914年 甲寅 15岁 入省立宁波第四师范学校
读书。
1920年 庚申 21岁 从冯君木进修古典文学，
并自修古文字学、金石学。
1922年 壬戌 23岁 至上海任家庭教师。从吴
昌硕学书法篆刻。
1925年 乙丑 26岁 任教于修能学社。吴昌硕
为《兰沙馆印式》题诗：
“浙人不学赵撝叔，偏师
独出殊英雄。文何陋习一
荡滌，不似之似传让翁。
我思投笔一鏖战，笳鼓不
竞还藏锋”。
1928年 戊辰 29岁 至杭州。任浙江省政府秘
书处科员。著《近三百年
的书学》、《印学概论》。
1929年 己巳 30岁 任广州中山大学预科国文
教授。
1930年 庚午 31岁 著《助词论》。
1931年 辛未 32岁 任南京中央大学秘书。
1932年 壬申 33岁 任教育部秘书。
1936年 丙子 37岁 任中英庚款董事会干事。
1939年 己卯 40岁 在重庆。著《训诂广例》。
1946年 丙戌 47岁 东归南京。著《家谱通例》。
1947年 丁亥 48岁 任国民政府第二局秘书。
从事蒋氏宗谱纂修。
1949年 己丑 50岁 任浙江大学中文系教授。
1952年 壬辰 53岁 任浙江省文物管理委员会
常务委员，兼调查组长。
1954年 甲午 55岁 兼任浙江省博物馆历史部
主任。
1955年 乙未 56岁 写杭州灵隐寺大雄宝殿额。
1956年 丙申 57岁 主编《浙江新石器时代文
物图录》。
1962年 壬寅 63岁 任西泠印社理事。著《印
学史》。
1963年 癸卯 64岁 任浙江美术学院书法篆刻
专业教授。
1975年 乙卯 76岁 著《海岳名言注释》。
1979年 己未 80岁 任浙江美术学院书法篆刻
专业硕士研究生班导师。
出席中国文学艺术工作者
第四次代表大会。出席西
泠印社75周年大会，当选
为西泠印社社长。
1980年 庚申 81岁 任西泠书画院院长。著
《中国书法史图录》。
1981年 辛酉 82岁 任浙江省博物馆名誉馆长。
当选为中国书协副主席。
1982年 壬戌 83岁 当选为中国书协浙江分会
主席。
1983年 癸亥 84岁 《兰沙馆印式》出版。
1985年 乙丑 86岁 写诗品二十四则长卷。
1986年 丙寅 87岁 九月，沙孟海沙更世父子
书画展在浙江省博物馆举
行。《沙孟海写书谱》出
版。主编《中国新文艺大
系（1976—1982）书法集》。
1987年 丁卯 88岁 出席中日书法讨论会，宣
读论文：《两晋南北朝书
迹的写体与刻体——兰亭
帖争论的关键问题》。出
席中日兰亭书会。《沙孟
海论书丛稿》、《印学史》、
《沙孟海书法集》先后出
版。
1988年 戊辰 89岁 著《清代书法概说》，
撰《西泠印社八十五周年
碑记》并书。《印学史》
在日本翻译出版。
1989年 己巳 90岁 受浙江美术学院聘为终身
教授。
1990年 庚午 91岁 写兰亭三序合卷、辛稼轩
词卷、魏武帝诗卷。
1991年 辛未 92岁 浙江省首届书法艺术节举
办了沙孟海书法展和沙孟
海书法艺术座谈会。书法
展在香港举行。受聘为中
国书协顾问。主编《中国
新文艺大系（1949—1966）
书法集》。《中国书法史
图录》上册出版。
1992年 壬申 93岁 沙孟海书学院成立。10月
10日，在杭州病故。安葬
于家乡鄞县东钱湖畔。

Teachers' College.
1920 21 years old; studied classical
literature under Feng Junmu and also
learn ancient philology and epigraphy
by himself.
1921 23 years old; went to Shanghai to be
a tutor; studied calligraphy and seal
cutting under Wu Changshuo.
1625 26 years old; taught at Xiouneng
Society.
1928 29 years old; went to Hangzhou and
took a post in the Department of
Secretary in Zhejiang Provincial
government; wrote "Epigraphy over the
Past Three Hundred Years" and
"Conspectus of Seal Cutting"
1929 30 years old; became a professor at
the Department of Chinese in Zhongshan
University.
1930 31 years old;wrote "On Auxiliary Word"
1931 32 years old; became secretary at
Nanjing Central University.
1932 33 years old; became secretary in the
Ministry of Education.
1936 37 years old; became secretary to the
Board of Directors of Sino-British
Gengkuan.
1939 40 years old; stayed in Chongqing and
wrote "Xunguguangli".
1946 47 years old; came back to Nanjing
and wote "On Genealogy".
1947 48 years old; became secretary in the
Second Bureau of the National Govern-
ment; took part in the edit of Jiang's
genealogy.
1949 50 years old; became professor of
Chinese Department in Zhejiang Univer-
sity.
1952 53 years old; became a standing member
of the Cultural Relics Administration
Committee and also leader of the
research group.
1954 55 years old; also acted as Director
of the History Department of Zhejiang
Museum
1955 56 years old; handwrote "Magnificent
Hall" as its plaque of Lingyin Temple.
1956 57 years old; edited " the Neolithic
Culture Relics with Pictures in Zhe-
jiang Province."
1962 63 years old; became director of
Xiling Engravers' Society and wrote
"the History of Seal Cutting".
1963 64 years old; became professor of
Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Depart-
ment in Zhejiang Fine Arts Academy.
1975 76 years old; wrote "Notes to Famous
Quotations by Haiyu"
1979 80 years old; became instructor of
Master of calligraphy and seal cutting
in Zhejiang Fine Arts Academy;attended
the Fourth China Literature and art
Workers Congress;attended the Seventy-
five Anniversary Meeting of Xilin
Engravers' Society and was elected
Chinaman of the Society.
1980 81 years old; became president of
Xilin Painting and Calligraphy
Studio; wrote "History of Chinese
Calligraphy with pictures".
1981 82 years old; became honorable
curator of Zhejiang Museum and was
elected vice-chairman China
Calligraphers' Association.
1982 83 years old; was elected Chairman of
China calligraphers' Association,
Zhejiang Branch.
1983 84 years old; "A Selection of Seals
from Lanshaguan" was published.
1985 86 years old; handwrote twenty-four
poems in a long roll.
1986 87 years old; Father and Son Joint
Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition
was held in Zhejianf Museum in
Septmemer; " A Collection of Sha
Menghai";Edit "China's New literature
(1976 - 1982); Calligraphy."
1987 88 years old; attended a calligraphy
seminar between Japan and China with
an essey " the Difference between
handwriting and inscription styles of
Jin, South,North Dynasties";attended
Sino-Japan calligraphers meeting;
published "On Calligraphy by Sha
Menghai", "History of Seal Cutting"
and "Collection of Sha Menghai's
Calligraphy" were published.
1988 89 years old; wrote "Conspectus of
Calligraphy in Qin Dynasty" and "the
Stele in Memory of the 85 Birthday of
Xilin Engravers Society; the Japanese
Version of History of Seal Cutting"
was published in Janpan.
1989 90 years old; was made professor for
life by Zhejiang Fine Arts Academy.
1990 91 years old;handwrote three prefaces
of Lanting, the poems by Xin Jiaqi,
and poems by Weiwudi.
1991 92 years old;Sha Menghai Calligraphy
Exhibition and Seminar on Sha
Menghai Calligraphic Art were held
during the First Calligraphy and Art
Festival; was made counselor of the
China Calligraphers Associateion.
1992 93 years old; Sha Menghai Calligraphy
Center was established; died of ill-
ness in Hangzhou in October 10;buried
by the side of Dong Qianhu Lake in
